Gizmodo, and the new “new journalism”

Gizmodo proved that it will indeed do “anything for a story” by its involvement in the “iPhone 4G” controversy.

Two weeks ago, I got out of my car in the parking lot of a business supplies store and looked down: there was a cell phone lying on the pavement.

Busy Sunday. Despite earlier reports that the supposed next-gen iPhone prototype was actually a Japanese knockoff phone, the eagle-eyed team at Engadget hasn’t given up the chase.The latest development highlights a second device in some of the blurry spy shots from back in January that turned out to be testing shots of the in-progress iPad, and if you look at it just right… it looks quite a bit like the found phone. Who Knew? Joost Makes a Better Ad Network Than a Video Portal

For those that questioned the acquisition of Joost by ad firm Adconion last year, or the subsequent transformation of the online video portal into a video ad network, the early results are in, and they are surprisingly positive. Hidden in yesterday’s comScore release of February stats was the tidbit that Joost led all video ad networks in terms of actual reach — that is, penetration of ads delivered to online video viewers. Samsung: Drinking and 3-D TV Don’t Mix

Are you expecting, elderly or prone to have a few beers while watching a soccer match? Then you shouldn’t watch it in 3-D, according to a warning label Samsung is distributing with its 3-D TV sets (hat tip to High-Def Digest).

The CE maker is also warning that 3-D could cause seizures, strokes, dizziness, confusion, nausea and a whole lot of other things you’re more used to expect from prescription-only medication. Read the rest of this entry »

ABC Sees Success in iPad App

ABC is the only television network so far to offer an application for watching its shows free—with ads—on Apple Inc.’s new iPad tablet computer, and it says its business model is proving fruitful.

The network said that in the 10 days since the iPad’s debut, its TV-show watching app has been downloaded 205,000 times, giving the Walt Disney Co. unit a presence on nearly half the 450,000 devices that Apple says it has sold. Read the rest of this entry »
