Samsung: Drinking and 3-D TV Don’t Mix

Are you expecting, elderly or prone to have a few beers while watching a soccer match? Then you shouldn’t watch it in 3-D, according to a warning label Samsung is distributing with its 3-D TV sets (hat tip to High-Def Digest).

The CE maker is also warning that 3-D could cause seizures, strokes, dizziness, confusion, nausea and a whole lot of other things you’re more used to expect from prescription-only medication. Its warning reads, in part:

“Pregnant women, the elderly, sufferers of serious medical conditions, those who are sleep deprived or under the influence of alcohol should avoid utilising the unit’s 3D functionality.”

There goes the plan to invite your birthing class buddies over for a 3-D World Cup bash. Samsung also warns that viewing 3-D TV can cause motion sickness, perceptual after-effects (kind of like a short-term flash-back, I guess) and decreased postural stability, among other things. The company recommends frequent breaks while watching 3-D TV, and advises anyone experiencing any of this to give it a rest for at least 30 minutes.

Maybe you can use that time to reorganize your living room. Samsung also recommends to keep its 3-D TV set away from “open stairwells, cables, balconies, or other objects that can be tripped over, run into, knocked down, broken or fallen over” because it could case disorientation for some viewers. In other words: You shouldn’t have that beer around anyway, because you’re probably gonna knock it over while trying to recover from all those 3-D side effects.
